Death of a Vampire

A vampire does the unthinkable and joins the revolution against the monarchy. His vampiric nature proves useful during the fighting, but when the revolution is victorious, he becomes a suspect element within the newly-formed republic. He navigates the dangerous politics of victory with his beloved comrade who goes through everything with him—even though he feeds on her very life matter. Both of them play an important role in the republic despite all the political machinations. They build an ordinary life for themselves and they raise a good son together. The triumph of the counter-revolution shatters that life in a horrific manner. Their son takes an opposite journey to the one they have taken. He remembers, though, and remembrance might lead him back.
